Anuradhapura Thuruithurugama Housing Project

The project was specially designed with green areas of each cluster of housing units, for the relocation of squatter households living in vulnerable areas of the city of Anuradhapura. All the infrastructure facilities were provided to the new settlement and housing construction works done with eco-friendly concept for only 08 housing units.

The housing project was commenced in 23rd September, 2011 and completed in November 2012. The project was declared open by H.E the President on 07th April 2013.

Current Status


  • Target Community has been resettled
  • Post mobilization programme is being implemented. (formation of community society, the children society, youth societies, small groups to promote Micro Finance Programme among the women and so on)
  • The encumbered lands have been released for Anuradhapura Sacred City Development
  • A community Hall was constructed in January, 2016
  • Amended agreements are to be signed with the beneficiaries due to the change of method of recovery
